JUNE 4, 2026 – LOS ANGELES, CA – Pop-rock singer Hailey Hermida is set to release her new single “OPPosites”. “OPPosites was written from the pain and confusion of losing a friend when the same story is seen in completely opposite ways,”

Hermida continues, sharing, “When a trusted close friend suddenly turns on you based on one-sided assumptions, it can be hard to understand your emotions. You replay every moment, trying to figure out a way to reconcile, but sometimes you just need to move on without them. This song reflects the feeling of being misunderstood and watching a friend betray you by rewriting the situation and self-destructing in their own head.”

“OPPosites” follows the direction of Hermida’s critically praised song “17”. As  Jonathan Currinn from Good Star Vibes writes, “for fans of emotionally driven rock and pop-punk sounds, [17] offers a glimpse into an artist determined to turn personal experiences into powerful musical moments.”

Hailey Hermida began writing songs when she was 13, using music as an escape from the Pandemic. It was during this time that she discovered her love of rock music through attending punk shows that her future bandmates would throw. These shows and her rising adoration for artists like Deftones, Weezer, Paramore, and Avril Lavigne caused her to fall in love with not only the storytelling of punk music, but the deep importance of the performance aspect of the genre. Since then, she’s been working with GRAMMY® nominated producer Riley Urick and co-songwriter Onique “Sparrow” Williams, who together have worked with artists like Usher and Britney Spears. As a team, they’ve crafted a punk-rock sound that blends Hermida’s high energy vocals with hard driving guitar bass riffs.

Hermida explains, “OPPosites came about very naturally. I was in the middle of losing a friend to a one-sided misunderstanding and was tired of them rewriting the narrative to fit their own delusions. I needed a way to process what I was going through and I just started building this song off that feeling. I must’ve rewrote the chorus five or six times. I wanted to ensure the song wasn’t aggressive or mean; that wasn’t the point of the song. I needed it to feel real without it being an attack. I’ve always valued my friendships, but have had to learn that not everything is meant to be held onto. This song represents that growth.”

Sonically, “OPPosites” shines as a darker and edgier take on 2000s pop-rock. The deep pulsating guitar riffs are inspired by Paramore’s “The News”, while the dark aspects of the production are meant to be reminiscent of Lady Gaga, The Pretty Reckless, or Jake Webber’s edgy nature. Hermida’s soft vocals, inspired by Hayley Williams’ light vocals on “The Only Exception”, provide a contrast from the darker edgy sound of the production. Building on that contrast, Hermida shares, “the way it moves melodically, it feels like the vocal is hopping and moving in a way that sounds unpredictable”.

Inspired by the honesty and confidence of the women-fronted bands she grew up with, Hermida sees her music as a safe space for those who are dealing with new and intense emotions. Hermida hopes that people connect with her raw honesty on this track, sharing, “It’s not about being perfect, it’s about saying things people actually feel but don’t always say out loud”.
